Macron Thanks Romania for Firefighter Aid Amid French Wildfires

French President Emmanuel Macron publicly thanked Romania for its support as specialized firefighters joined the effort to combat extensive wildfires in southern France. The Romanian contingent is part of a multinational response, with France also receiving aid from Croatia, Italy, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.

Romanian firefighters are actively engaged in extinguishing fires and limiting their spread in challenging terrain and weather conditions. They are operating within a framework established by French authorities, focusing on containing active blazes and protecting vulnerable areas. The Inspectorate General for Emergency Situations (IGSU) noted that difficult conditions are hampering operations.

Meanwhile, the wildfires have caused significant disruption for thousands of tourists in southwestern France, leading to emergency evacuations. Areas like the Cap Ferret peninsula and the Biscarrosse region near Bordeaux have been particularly affected. French authorities reported that approximately 141,000 people were evacuated from the Gironde and Landes departments, with similar evacuations occurring in Spain.
