Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Jolts Waters Off West Lampung Coast

An earthquake measuring magnitude 4.7 shook the waters south of West Lampung Regency, Lampung, on Saturday morning. The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported the earthquake occurred at 00:28 WIB, with its epicenter located at sea. The quake's center was at coordinates 5.72 degrees South Latitude and 103.90 degrees East Longitude, approximately 59 kilometers south of West Lampung. It had a depth of 31 kilometers.

Tremors from the earthquake were felt in three areas within Lampung province: Kota Agung, Tanggamus Regency, and West Lampung Regency. The intensity was measured at level II MMI in Kota Agung and Tanggamus, and III MMI in West Lampung, indicating that the vibrations were felt by several people indoors. As of the latest reports, BMKG has not issued any tsunami warnings related to this earthquake. There have also been no official reports of building damage or casualties resulting from the event. This seismic activity follows a similar event on June 28, 2026, when a magnitude 4.9 earthquake occurred 81 kilometers southeast of Tanggamus Regency.
