Malaysian Siblings Raise Young Brother After Parents' Fatal Accident

In Bentong, Malaysia, a profound tragedy has fallen upon six siblings who are now shouldering the immense responsibility of raising their three-year-old brother. The youngest child, Muhammad Harith Syauqi, has Down syndrome and autism. His parents, Mohd. Khair Zainudin, 55, and Norzaili Khalil, 49, were killed in a road accident on July 7.

The couple had seven children. One lives in Selangor, while the other five reside in the family's ancestral home in Felda Lurah Bilut. The second eldest sibling, Nur Syafiqah, 25, lives nearby as she is married with three children of her own. Despite the added burden, the siblings view Muhammad Harith Syauqi not as a responsibility, but as a sacred trust left by their parents.

Nur Syafiqah shared that her late mother had always urged them to look after Muhammad Harith Syauqi, emphasizing his need for continuous care, love, and attention. "If Mom is no longer here, please take care of little brother. Don't fight amongst yourselves and don't neglect him," she recounted her mother's dying wish.

The task of caring for Muhammad Harith Syauqi is not new to the siblings. Since his birth, his daily needs have largely been managed by two of his sisters, Siti Qhadijah Husna, 19, and Nur Syafina Syaqira, 22. Their mother would entrust the young boy to them for bathing, feeding, and accompanying him to medical appointments before leaving for errands or work.
