Mali and Germany throw Women's Basketball World Cup Group A wide open

Mali's upset of Spain and Germany's emphatic win over Japan have left Group A at the Women's Basketball World Cup completely open, with every team now holding one victory.

Mali produced the day's biggest surprise by beating Spain, led by Sika Koné's double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Her performance earned a valuation of 23 and added further tension to a group already tightly balanced.

Germany responded to its earlier setback against Spain by overwhelming Japan at Berlin's packed Max-Schmeling Halle. More than 8,000 spectators watched the hosts pull away, with Nyara Sabally scoring 18 points and Frieda Bühner adding 19.

In Group B, Hungary recovered from its heavy defeat to France the previous day by beating Nigeria 71-67. Dorka Juhasz, the EuroLeague MVP, delivered her first major performance in Berlin with 19 points, 16 assists and a valuation of 26.

France then defeated South Korea comfortably, winning 95-69. Groups C and D are scheduled to return to action on Sunday at the Uber Arena, where title contender the United States will face Italy, which had beaten the Czech Republic.
