Mali Junta Reels as Defense Minister Killed, Key City Falls to Rebels

Mali's ruling military junta finds itself embroiled in a deepening security crisis following a wave of synchronized, nationwide attacks orchestrated by a coalition of Tuareg separatists and jihadist groups. The coordinated assaults, which began at dawn on Saturday, have not only claimed the life of the nation's Defense Minister, Sadio Camara, but have also reportedly resulted in the capture of the strategically important northern town of Kidal by rebel forces.

The loss of Defense Minister Camara represents a significant blow to the junta's administration. He succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal car bomb attack targeting his residence in Kati, a stronghold near the capital, Bamako. His wife and two grandchildren were also killed in the brazen assault. The government confirmed Camara's death, stating he died while bravely confronting his attackers, some of whom he managed to neutralize.
