Man arrested for misusing diesel subsidy card to siphon fuel

In a significant bust, the Kelantan branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has apprehended an individual suspected of masterminding a diesel subsidy fraud scheme. The operation, which took place in Kampung Buloh Melintang, Kangkong, saw the arrest of a man in his 20s who was allegedly using a subsidized diesel card, commonly known as a 'fleet card,' for illicit purposes.

The enforcement team acted on intelligence, tracking a lorry believed to be involved in suspicious refueling activities across several stations in Kubang Kerian and Pasir Mas. Upon observation, officers witnessed the suspect siphoning diesel from the lorry's modified tank into jerry cans, a clear indication of fuel diversion. Further inspection revealed that the lorry's original tank had been illegally enlarged to store a substantial amount of diesel, presumably for resale.

During initial questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to selling the diverted diesel to a local company at the same location. Authorities seized 275 liters of diesel and a fleet card as evidence. This case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, highlighting the government's commitment to curbing the misuse of fuel subsidies. This incident follows a similar arrest in Kampung Simpangan, where another individual was caught smuggling subsidized diesel into Thailand using a friend's fleet card.
