Man Arrested for Vandalizing Election Campaign Vehicle in South Korea

Police in Sokcho, South Korea, have apprehended a 60-year-old man suspected of vandalizing a campaign vehicle belonging to a local election candidate. The incident occurred on May 23rd when the suspect allegedly spray-painted the phrase '내란당 X' (which can be interpreted as 'Traitors Party X' or similar derogatory terms) onto the vehicle parked near the Seoraksan National Park entrance. The candidate discovered the vandalism on May 24th and immediately reported it to the police, who then launched an investigation.

The suspect was arrested at his home the following day after police identified him through neighborhood inquiries and other investigative methods. He is currently being questioned about the specific motives behind his actions. Vandalizing election campaign materials, including vehicles, is a violation of South Korea's Public Official Election Act. This law stipulates that individuals found guilty of damaging or obstructing election propaganda facilities can face imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won.
