Man Fined for Spreading False Information, Insulting Police Online

In a move to uphold the integrity of law enforcement and combat the spread of misinformation, authorities in Vinh Long province have fined a local man for posting defamatory comments about the police on social media. The individual, identified as N.V.T., was found to have shared false and distorted information that tarnished the reputation of the People's Police.

During questioning, Mr. T. acknowledged his wrongdoing, admitting that his comments on March 31st were untrue and damaging. After being educated on the relevant laws and regulations by the police, he expressed remorse, deleted the offending posts, and pledged not to repeat such actions. This voluntary admission and commitment to rectify his mistake were taken into account during the penalty.

The fine, amounting to 7.5 million VND, was imposed in accordance with Decree No. 15/2020/ND-CP, which addresses the provision and sharing of false, fabricated, or defamatory information. This case underscores the legal consequences of spreading misinformation, particularly when it targets public institutions and officials.

This incident serves as a crucial reminder for all citizens to exercise caution and responsibility when engaging with online content.
