The legal group Prerrogativas has issued a strong statement denouncing the Senate's rejection of Jorge Messias's nomination to the Supreme Court, labeling it a "sordid and petty manipulation." In a note released on Thursday, the group, which aligns itself with the Lula administration, asserted that the campaign against Messias was driven by "base and ignominious political motivations."

The group views Messias's defeat as a deliberate political maneuver by the opposition to inflict a setback on the government, bypassing the proper constitutional process for evaluating judicial nominees.
