Mexico City Residents Protest Alleged Property Invasion, Block Major Avenue

Residents of the Del Valle Centro neighborhood in Mexico City have maintained a protest for over 24 hours, blocking the intersection of Coyoacán Avenue and Matías Romero. They have set up a camp to demand official intervention against an alleged property invasion and dispossession, which they claim is not an isolated incident in the area.

The owner of the property at Matías Romero 18, identified as Dani, stated the protest will continue until action is taken against the woman accused of changing her home's locks and occupying it. Neighbors have investigated and believe the woman is a public official.

The situation escalated on July 21 when the woman allegedly entered the property. Although she was detained, residents were angered by her subsequent release. They have erected tents, banners, and makeshift barricades to impede vehicle traffic, vowing to maintain the blockade until a concrete response is received. Neighbors shared videos and testimony with authorities, expressing frustration over the perceived inaction and protection afforded to the accused, noting that her own residence reportedly faces similar dispossession issues.

"It is not possible that a person arrives, you leave, they change your lock, they have a key and they are the owner of your house, and while the contrary is investigated, it remains in whose name," Dani stated, highlighting the legal quandary. A police patrol is reportedly guarding the property, and the locks have been changed.
