Missing diver found 26km from Uljin, rescued near Samcheok

A dramatic rescue unfolded off the coast of South Korea as a 50-year-old diver, who had gone missing near Uljin, was found alive and well approximately 26 kilometers away near Samcheok.

The diver had been participating in a recreational dive with a group of seven when he became separated from the others. After being unaccounted for for about 12 hours, a large-scale search operation involving multiple Coast Guard vessels, aircraft, and even naval support was launched.

Fortunately, a cement carrier spotted the missing diver in the waters near Imwon Port. He was rescued and, according to reports, is not suffering from any serious health issues. The diver explained that strong currents had caused him to drift away from his companions.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with diving. The Coast Guard has reiterated the importance of diving in pairs and maintaining constant communication to ensure safety. They urge anyone involved in water activities to report any accidents or disappearances immediately.
