More rain, possible sleet and bitter cold forecast for Uruguay

Uruguay is heading into several days of sharply colder weather after a cold front brought rain, with Sunday and Monday expected to be the toughest days.

The Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology forecasts temperatures of 10°C to 16°C in Montevideo and the metropolitan area on Thursday, below the 20°C and 21°C recorded on Wednesday. Rain will ease during the afternoon. Friday should be dry, with temperatures between 8°C and 14°C.

The cold will intensify over the weekend. Saturday will bring winds with gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour, scattered rain in the capital and temperatures from 6°C to 12°C. Sunday could also see light rain, with temperatures between 6°C and 11°C. Monday’s low is expected to fall to 3°C, although the high should begin to recover at around 12°C.

After that, the 16-degree temperatures return.
