Muhammadiyah Urges Members to Perform Hajj Animal Sacrifice in Indonesia

As an organization deeply rooted in serving the Indonesian Muslim community, Muhammadiyah, through its Lembaga Pembinaan Haji dan Umrah (LPHU), is actively guiding its Hajj pilgrims on the optimal way to fulfill their religious obligations. The recent directive to perform the 'dam' sacrifice in Indonesia, rather than in the Holy Land, stems from a considered religious ruling by the Majelis Tarjih dan Tajdid. This decision is not merely a logistical shift; it is grounded in the principle of 'maslahat' – seeking the greatest benefit for the wider community.

Maka tugas kami adalah mengkoordinasi seluruh jamaah dari warga Muhammadiyah yang ikut bimbingan di Kelompok Bimbingan Ibadah Haji dan Umrah (KBIHU) yang jumlahnya sekitar 12.500 orang, kita minta untuk melaksanakan putusan tarjih ini, yang kedua (kita minta untuk) mengikuti edaran dari Kementerian Haji dan Umrah tentang pilihan penyembelihan dam di Tanah Suci dan di Tanah Air.

We also emphasize compliance with the Ministry of Religious Affairs' circulars regarding dam slaughter options. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that religious practices align with societal welfare, a core tenet of Muhammadiyah's approach.

This move reflects a commitment to 'maqashid syariah,' the higher objectives of Islamic law, ensuring that religious acts yield practical benefits for humanity.

This is a uniquely Indonesian approach, where religious institutions actively seek ways to enhance national welfare.
