Museums and Art Galleries Across South Korea to Showcase Diverse Programs for 'Museum and Art Museum Week'

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with the Korean National Committee of the International Council of Museums and the Korean Museum Association, is hosting the '2026 Museum and Art Museum Week' throughout May. This nationwide event, themed 'Museums Connecting a Divided World,' seeks to emphasize the vital role these institutions play in fostering harmony, communication, and inclusion in contemporary society.

This year's initiative is structured around three main components: 'Museum X Meet,' 'Museum X Enjoy,' and 'Museum X Stroll.' 'Museum X Meet' will showcase 50 representative collection items from 50 selected institutions, offering lectures, experiences, and storytelling exhibitions centered on the theme of 'Firsts and Beginnings.' This focus aims to draw attention to the foundational aspects and historical significance of museum collections.

'Museum X Enjoy' promises a variety of cultural experiences, including 16 special exhibitions and hands-on programs across 18 institutions. These events are designed to facilitate deeper engagement with art and history, particularly focusing on transforming past conflicts into present-day solidarity. Complementing these are the 'Museum X Stroll' programs, where expert guides will lead 12 tours across four regions—Seoul, Gongju, Gyeongju, and Jeju—highlighting the unique history and culture of each area. The opening ceremony will take place on May 4th at the Moran Museum of Art in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, signaling the start of a month dedicated to celebrating and exploring the multifaceted value of museums and art galleries across South Korea.
