MV Hondius Passengers Quarantined in Madrid After Hantavirus Outbreak

A cruise ship, the MV Hondius, has become the center of an international health operation after a hantavirus outbreak was detected among its passengers. The ship, which had been sailing from Cape Verde, docked near Tenerife in Spain's Canary Islands, prompting a coordinated evacuation effort. Spanish nationals were the first to be flown to Madrid for quarantine at the Central Defense Hospital Gomez Ulla, a move that highlights Spain's commitment to public health security. The Dutch-flagged vessel saw 13 passengers and one crew member, all Spanish, on the first repatriation flight. Other nations, including Australia and the Netherlands, are also arranging special flights for their citizens. Six cases are confirmed hantavirus positive, with two suspected.
