Nasaruddin Umar proposed as candidate for top Nahdlatul Ulama post

The Regional Leadership Council of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) in Bungo Regency has put forward Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar as a potential candidate for the chairmanship of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU). The nomination comes ahead of the 35th NU Congress scheduled for August in Jombang.

Kiai Syakroni, Chairman of PCNU Bungo, expressed the hope that Umar would accept the nomination, citing his profound Islamic knowledge, seasoned leadership, and capacity to embrace all elements within the NU community. "He is a scholar with extensive knowledge, wisdom in leadership, and is accepted by various circles within Nahdlatul Ulama," Syakroni stated.

Syakroni highlighted the complex challenges facing NU in the future, including education, da'wah (preaching), economic empowerment, and its national and international roles. He believes Umar's strong international network would be instrumental in strengthening NU's position as a global reference for moderate Islam and promoting its values of 'Rahmatan lil 'alamin' (mercy to all creation).

The PCNU Bungo hopes the upcoming congress will elect a leader capable of maintaining organizational unity, enhancing service to the community, and advancing NU's standing nationally and globally. They emphasized Umar's potential to unify NU factions and leverage his relationships with international figures and organizations to bolster Indonesia's Islamic diplomacy and contribute to world peace.
