New Taipei's 'Tantan' Recovers from Critical Illness, Awaits Adoption

A black cat, affectionately named 'Tantan' by medical staff, is on the road to recovery and seeking a forever home after a harrowing ordeal with severe illness.

The cat was discovered in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, exhibiting critical symptoms including bloody diarrhea and a respiratory infection. Upon arrival at the Tamsui Animal House, its condition rapidly deteriorated, requiring immediate transfer to the Precious Pet Medical Center. Veterinarians initially had a grim prognosis due to the cat's inability to eat and rapid weight loss, leaving it too weak to stand.

Despite its critical state, Tantan displayed remarkable resilience and a gentle disposition. Caregivers were touched by the cat's efforts to open its eyes and look at them when approached, and its soft purrs when seeking affection. This strong will to live and trusting nature motivated the medical team to provide intensive care, including medication, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and constant attention.

Following dedicated treatment, Tantan's condition has significantly improved. The bloody diarrhea has subsided, and the cat has begun to eat and regain strength. While still undergoing treatment for lingering gastrointestinal issues and a mild case of pneumonia, Tantan is now out of immediate danger. The New Taipei City Animal Protection and Disease Prevention Office is hopeful that through adoption, Tantan will find a warm and loving family to complete its recovery.

Even though it still needs daily treatment, whenever it sees medical staff approaching, it will actively rub against them and emit soft purrs, showing a strong will to live.
