Nigeria dismisses two operatives for supplying firearms to illegal miners

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed two operatives from its Mining Marshal squad for illegally providing firearms to illegal miners. The corps' Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, stated that the actions of the dismissed personnel constituted grave misconduct and were prejudicial to the corps' operational integrity.

These dismissed officers have also been recommended for prosecution. Their dismissal stems from an operational incident on February 18, 2026, in Nasarawa state, which resulted in the death of their location commander, Levi Agada. The NSCDC boss emphasized that comprehensive investigations cleared Commander ACC John Onoja and other management team members of alleged complicity, labeling contrary claims as false and without factual basis.

Consequently, both personnel have been dismissed from the service and recommended for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Investigations also found no evidence of premeditated intent against the deceased. The NSCDC stated that the actions of the dismissed personnel directly contradicted established guidelines, leading to their removal from service and subsequent legal proceedings.
