No final decision on my political future: Kwankwaso

As reported by The Punch, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, a prominent figure within the party, has openly acknowledged the difficulties. The Supreme Court's recent judgment, while affirming the David Mark-led National Working Committee, has pushed aspects of the dispute back to the high court, creating uncertainty.

We have noted recent media reports and discussions suggesting a possible realignment within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to the current challenges facing the party.

Adding to the party's woes, the Federal High Court has invalidated its recent convention, and the Attorney General of the Federation has initiated proceedings for the deregistration of the ADC. Kwankwaso drew parallels to his own departure from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) due to similar externally influenced legal issues, suggesting a pattern of external interference designed to destabilize political entities.

In light of the misleading narratives in the public domain, I wish to state categorically that no final decision has been taken regarding my political future or that of my political associates.

In response to this turbulent climate, Kwankwaso has initiated broad consultations with leaders from various political parties, including the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). The goal is to explore all available options to safeguard democratic interests and chart a course for the future. This period of intense consultation underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for a collective decision on the party's path forward, with an announcement expected soon. Kwankwaso also used the opportunity to dispel rumors about the 2027 presidential race, stating he has not declared any intention to contest or endorsed any candidate, a move that could be seen as managing expectations and maintaining strategic flexibility.
