NPP Greater Accra elections: Disagreement over ballot counting process

Tensions flared at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Greater Accra Regional Executive elections on Saturday as aspirants clashed over the ballot counting process. Voting concluded at 3:15 p.m. at the WAEC Hall in Tema Community 5, but the subsequent counting procedure became a point of contention.

Some aspirants raised immediate concerns about how the ballots should be counted, leading to differing views among contestants, election officials, and other stakeholders present. While some supported proceeding with the count as outlined by election officials, others demanded clarification before the ballots were opened.

The disagreement created a tense atmosphere at the venue. Election officials, party officers, members of the Election Committee, and contestants were involved in extended discussions to find a resolution and agree on the appropriate procedure for the count.

After approximately an hour of debate, party officers, the Election Committee, Electoral Commission officials, and the police provided direction, allowing the counting process to proceed. The ballots were subsequently cleared for counting as all parties worked to address the surrounding concerns.
