NPP ordered takeover of Wontumi’s legal team, says Manhyia South MP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reportedly intervened in the legal representation of its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Wontumi. Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah revealed that the party leadership mandated a change in counsel.

According to Awuah, the directive led to Samuel Atta Akyea taking over as Wontumi's lawyer, replacing Andy Appiah-Kubi. "The NPP directed that the legal cases of Chairman Wontumi be taken over. That is why Samuel Atta Akyea has now replaced Andy Appiah-Kubi as his lawyer," the MP stated. He emphasized that this was not an individual decision but a party-driven initiative aimed at managing Wontumi's complex legal matters more effectively.

Chairman Wontumi has recently been in the public eye due to various legal issues, including investigations and court appearances related to allegations of illegal mining and financial impropriety. Political observers interpret the change in legal representation as the NPP's strategic move to consolidate support and provide coordinated legal assistance to a prominent regional figure within the party.
