One Dead, Two Critically Injured in Jakarta Resident Clash

A violent clash between groups of residents erupted on Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The altercation led to multiple casualties, with several individuals requiring hospitalization.

According to the Head of the Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Besar Reynold E. P. Hutagalung, the disturbance was triggered by the destruction of a 'nasi uduk' (rice with side dishes) cart by a group of individuals. This act quickly escalated into a chaotic exchange of thrown stones.

The confrontation resulted in two individuals, identified by the initials K and DS, being rushed to Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) in critical condition. Tragically, another resident, also identified by the initial K, was pronounced dead.

Commissioner Besar Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, added that the brawl also involved arson, which led to a semi-permanent building and four motorcycles being set ablaze. The Head of the Menteng Police Sector, Assistant Commissioner Besar Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu, explained that the incident occurred around 10:00 AM WIB, stemming from a dispute between local residents and individuals occupying a vacant lot. Police are currently investigating the exact chronology and cause of the clash, having interviewed three witnesses and processed the crime scene.
