Osun ADC candidate blames Accord, APC for labour movement division

Najeem Salaam, the governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, has voiced strong condemnation regarding the fragmentation observed within the state's labor movement. He directly implicated the Accord Party and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in exacerbating these divisions, suggesting their political maneuvering is detrimental to the welfare of workers.

Workers’ Day is a moment of solidarity, not separation. It is a day to reflect on the dignity of labour, the struggles of workers, and our shared commitment to a better future. To see workers divided along political lines is both unfortunate and unacceptable.

Salaam articulated his concerns in a statement, highlighting the unhealthy trend of partisan politics seeping into labor unions. He pointed to the emergence of parallel May Day celebrations, allegedly orchestrated to align with different political factions, as evidence of this divisive influence. He stressed that such actions undermine the solidarity essential for advocating for workers' rights and improved conditions.

Looking ahead, Salaam offered a vision for an ADC-led administration, promising to restore unity and respect to the labor movement. He pledged to create an environment free from political interference, where unions can operate and advocate effectively. His commitment extends to prioritizing workers' welfare, ensuring timely payments of salaries and pensions, and establishing transparent engagement with all labor bodies. This stance positions the ADC as a champion for labor rights against what they perceive as politically motivated disruptions.
