Osun Labour Faction Rallies for Welfare, Backs APC Candidate

The Association of Concerned Local Government Workers in Osun State marked May Day with a clear message: workers' welfare must be prioritized. This faction of the labor movement, holding its rally at the Olorunda Local Government Area, didn't just celebrate the day; they issued a strong challenge to political leaders, demanding an end to the "barbaric" practice of casualization.

It is our demand that permanent job offers should be prioritised over offering graduates casual or temporary employment.

Their coordinator, Adedayo Adekunle, articulated a vision where permanent employment takes precedence over temporary contracts, and workplace safety is non-negotiable. He emphasized that workers are partners in governance, not mere servants, and called for faster action on their demands. This stance reflects a growing assertiveness among Nigerian workers seeking dignity and security in their employment.

Safety at the workplace is not negotiable. All that is required to ensure the safety of employees should be given adequate attention.

Significantly, the association threw its weight behind Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate for the governorship election. This endorsement highlights the intersection of labor issues and political maneuvering in the state. The group's leadership believes Oyebamiji is a "worthy leader" who will champion their cause, urging all members to work for his victory. The APC's Osun factional ALGON chairman, Samuel Idowu, echoed these sentiments, assuring workers of prompt salary payments, improved working conditions, and support for capacity building, while also highlighting past achievements under APC leadership, such as clearing salary arrears for traditional rulers and empowering local communities.
