PDIP Questions Special Treatment for Ex-Prosecutor Febrie Adriansyah

Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto has voiced strong criticism over the perceived preferential treatment of former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. Kristiyanto highlighted that Adriansyah was not subjected to the usual procedures of wearing a prisoner's vest or being handcuffed when transferred to the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK) detention center.

Kristiyanto drew a stark contrast with his own experience. He recounted his detention on February 20, 2025, in relation to a bribery case, where he was escorted to the KPK detention center wearing an orange vest and handcuffs. "I have also experienced wearing an orange vest, handcuffed, and I obeyed even though I knew it was part of the criminalization due to my firm stance in responding to the 2024 election. I accepted that," Kristiyanto stated.

He argued that such differential treatment undermines the principle of equality before the law. "Regarding Mr. former Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Febri, as we mentioned in the speech earlier, how a citizen who, according to the constitution, has an equal standing in the eyes of the law, turns out not to be treated equally by law enforcement," he said. Kristiyanto warned that allowing such special treatment, especially for those within the legal system, would erode public satisfaction with the government.

Adriansyah himself was seen without the standard pink vest from the Attorney General's Office and with his hands free upon arrival at the KPK's Merah Putih building detention center on July 24, 2026. When questioned by reporters, he responded, "Oh no." Deputy Attorney General for Supervision Rudi Margono defended the decision, citing the late hour and the rush as reasons for not making Adriansyah wear the vest.

The case against Adriansyah involves a new Investigation Order (Sprindik) from the Attorney General's Office, specifically looking into allegations of money laundering related to PT Asabri. This investigation reportedly uncovered 74 kilograms of gold and foreign exchange worth hundreds of billions.
