Peñarol thrashes Cerro Largo to reach Uruguayan Torneo Intermedio final

Peñarol has clinched a spot in the final of the Uruguayan Torneo Intermedio, defeating Cerro Largo 3-0 in a decisive match. The victory secured their top position in Group A, setting up a final showdown against Montevideo Wanderers.

Abel Hernández was the standout performer, netting a brace, while fellow striker Matías Arezo contributed another goal to seal Peñarol's commanding win. The team, coached by Diego Aguirre, dominated the second half, with Cerro Largo unable to counter their offensive strategy.

Montevideo Wanderers had already secured their place in the final on Friday, defeating Montevideo City Torque 2-0 to win Group B. A goal from Santiago Benítez and another from Luciano Cosentino led the team, managed by Mathías Corujo, to 15 points, an unassailable lead in their group.

The remaining matches of the jornada will be played on Sunday and Monday, featuring fixtures between Racing and Boston River, Central Español and Liverpool, Nacional and Progreso, and Defensor Sporting and Cerro. These matches will conclude the intermediate tournament before the final.
