Peru, Honduras boost bilateral dialogue with ambassador appointments

Peru and Honduras are moving to strengthen bilateral ties with the re-establishment of ambassadors, a diplomatic step that had been stalled since 2023. The decision was highlighted by Peru's President-elect Keiko Fujimori and Honduras President Nasry Asfura during a meeting in Lima.

The two nations had mutually agreed to restore diplomatic relations in March, following the withdrawal of Peru's ambassador in 2023. This withdrawal occurred after the Peruvian representative questioned the legitimacy of then-Honduran President Dina Boluarte.

During their meeting at the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fujimori and Asfura emphasized the "recent boost in bilateral dialogue" achieved through the appointment of ambassadors. They also committed to exchanging knowledge on port management. Asfura's visit to Lima, timed for Fujimori's inauguration, also included meetings with business leaders and international representatives to foster cooperation.

Asfura's agenda in the Peruvian capital aimed to consolidate ties with the Andean nation and other regional countries. Upon his arrival, he and Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero were welcomed by Peruvian officials, including the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism and the Honduran Ambassador to Lima.
