Poland Expands Speed Monitoring Network on Major Routes

Poland is significantly enhancing its road safety infrastructure with a nationwide expansion of speed monitoring systems. The General Inspectorate of Road Traffic (GITD) is aggressively deploying new average speed measurement (OPP) sections and traditional speed cameras, a move that is being closely watched by drivers across the country.

The recent activation of an average speed check on a 15-kilometer stretch of the A4 motorway near Tarnów, a notorious accident blackspot, highlights the government's commitment to tackling dangerous driving. This section, with its 140 km/h limit for passenger cars, is designed to curb excessive speed, which has long been identified as a primary cause of accidents in the region, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Beyond the A4, the deployment extends to other vital expressways, including the S7, S3, and S6. These new systems, covering tens of kilometers, are part of a broader strategy to create a safer driving environment.
