Police arrest suspect in elderly woman's gold bracelet robbery

Police in Teluk Intan have arrested a 32-year-old local man suspected of robbing an elderly woman with a machete in Langkap on August 3. The suspect was apprehended early yesterday morning in Slim River by a team from the Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Division.

The incident occurred around 4 a.m. when an unknown assailant approached the victim, brandishing a machete. The suspect allegedly seized a gold bracelet the woman was wearing, resulting in injuries. The estimated loss from the robbery is around RM6,000.

Following the victim's report on August 3, police initiated an investigation and gathered intelligence, leading to the suspect's arrest. During the arrest, police also recovered a gold bracelet believed to be connected to the case. The suspect has been remanded for seven days until August 17 to aid the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which deals with causing hurt during robbery and carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, a fine, or both. Police are advising the public, especially residents, to enhance their home security, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours, by ensuring all entry points are securely locked and avoiding keeping large amounts of cash or valuables at home.
