Police hunt duo for random airsoft gun attack in Yogyakarta

Authorities in Sleman, Yogyakarta, are actively pursuing two unidentified individuals responsible for a random shooting incident involving an airsoft gun. The attack, which occurred around 2:00 AM on Sunday, August 2, 2026, left a 17-year-old student with a gunshot wound to his back.

The victim who was shot has the initials AARP, a resident of Tangerang Selatan.

The victim, identified by the initials AARP from Tangerang Selatan, was traveling on a motorcycle with a friend from Solo towards Yogyakarta. According to police, a second motorcycle, a black Honda PCX carrying two suspects, pulled alongside them. One of the alleged perpetrators was reportedly wearing a green online motorcycle taxi jacket and was armed with a sickle-like weapon and an airsoft gun.

The suspect then allegedly fired the airsoft gun indiscriminately, striking the victim in the back. The student received medical attention and has filed a police report. Police are currently gathering evidence and reviewing surveillance camera footage to identify the suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
