Police investigate murder of man shot outside his home in Chuy, Uruguay

Authorities in Rocha, Uruguay, are investigating the fatal shooting of a 53-year-old man, Oscar Omar Orgiola Estevez, outside his residence in the Chuy neighborhood. The incident occurred Sunday evening when two assailants on a motorcycle arrived at his home near the intersection of San Gonzalo and Treinta y Tres.

According to initial reports, the perpetrators knocked on Orgiola Estevez's door. When he opened it, they shot him at least five times. Despite being wounded, the victim attempted to flee, but the attackers pursued and fired again. Neighbors alerted authorities, and he was transported to the Chuy hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police discovered cocaine, a scale, a .38 caliber firearm, ammunition, and cash during a search of the victim's home. This discovery, coupled with the victim's criminal record – including a 2018 homicide conviction for shooting a man with his ex-partner – suggests a potentially complex motive. The Area of Investigations of Zone III in Rocha is reviewing local security camera footage and Ministry of Interior recordings to identify the assailants.

Adding another layer to the investigation, a red Peugeot 106, reported stolen in Maldonado, was found abandoned near the Chuy river on the Brazilian side a few hours after the homicide. The vehicle showed signs of bullet impacts and bloodstains, prompting police to analyze a potential connection between the car and the murder.
