Police kill robbery suspect, rescue abducted Oyo farmer

The Oyo State Police Command has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens by achieving significant breakthroughs against violent crime. In a swift response to credible intelligence, officers foiled an attempted robbery in Iseyin, engaging the perpetrators in a gun duel that resulted in the death of one suspect and the arrest of two others. This decisive action not only thwarted the immediate criminal act but also recovered valuable evidence, including firearms and cash, directly linking the suspects to previous criminal activities in the area.

The resident security guard engaged the attackers in a gun duel, leading to the killing of one suspect and the arrest of two others, while other gang members escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

In a separate but equally critical operation, the command successfully rescued a farmer, Quadri Oloriegbe, who had been abducted from his village in the Irawo area. The abduction, carried out by five armed men, prompted an immediate and coordinated rescue mission involving various security outfits, including Agbekoya operatives, Amotekun Corps, vigilantes, and local hunters. This collaborative effort, coupled with sustained bush-combing and intelligence gathering, led to the arrest of one suspect whose confession was instrumental in locating and safely recovering the farmer.

The victim was eventually rescued on May 5, 2026, and taken for medical evaluation before reuniting with his family.

Further investigations stemming from the rescue mission led to the apprehension of three additional suspects directly linked to the abduction. The Oyo State Police Command's proactive approach and effective collaboration with local security networks are crucial in maintaining law and order. These successes send a clear message to criminal elements that their activities will not be tolerated within the state, reinforcing the public's confidence in the security forces' ability to protect lives and property.

The police said further operations led to the arrest of three additional suspects identified as Zada Abubakar, Husein Rabiu and Abubakar Mohammed in connection with the abduction.
