Police Probe Officers Caught With Firearms in C’River

The Cross River State Police Command has moved swiftly to address a viral video showing two police officers apprehended with firearms and ammunition. While clarifying that the incident is not directly linked to the ongoing communal crisis between Ugep and Idomi, the command confirmed the arrest during a joint stop-and-search operation in Biase Local Government Area. This proactive stance aims to maintain public trust and demonstrate accountability within the force.

The Command wishes to clarify that the incident occurred on 5th May 2026, when two suspects riding on a motorcycle were intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted jointly by men of the Nigeria Police Force and personnel of the Nigerian Army in Biase Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Preliminary findings reveal the suspects are serving officers from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command. They were intercepted on May 5, 2026, while traveling on a motorcycle. The immediate transfer of the officers to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Calabar for a full-scale investigation signals the seriousness with which the command is treating the matter. This ensures a thorough examination of the motive, intent, and circumstances surrounding their possession of illegal weapons.
