Prabowo to Deliver State Addresses on Independence Anniversary and State Budget

President Prabowo Subianto is set to deliver two significant state addresses before parliament on Friday, August 14, 2026. The first address, during the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), will commemorate Indonesia's 81st independence anniversary and review the performance of state institutions. This will be followed by a second address to the House of Representatives (DPR) where he will formally present the 2027 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) and its accompanying financial notes.

The annual parliamentary session, traditionally held on August 16, was moved forward to Friday, August 14. House Speaker Puan Maharani explained that the shift was necessary because August 16 falls on a weekend this year, and parliamentary rules dictated holding the session on the final workday prior. Maharani assured that lawmakers would approach the session with greater solemnity and introspection, mindful of public criticism following last year's event where some members were seen dancing.

The day's agenda is packed, commencing at 8:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB). After opening remarks from MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani and Regional Representative Council (DPD) Speaker Sultan Najamuddin, President Prabowo will deliver his initial speeches. The morning session is expected to conclude around 11:00 a.m. WIB, with a break for Friday prayers. The afternoon session will resume at approximately 2:30 p.m. WIB, featuring opening remarks from Speaker Puan Maharani, followed by President Prabowo's budget submission. The day's events will formally conclude around 4:00 p.m. WIB with the signing of the session minutes.
