Production Halts at Kelebek and Doğtaş Furniture Factories as 2,000 Workers Strike Over Unpaid Bonuses

Çanakkale and Düzce, Turkey – Production has ground to a halt at two major furniture manufacturers, Kelebek Mobilya and Doğtaş Mobilya, as thousands of workers have laid down their tools in protest. The strike, organized by the Öz Ağaç-İş union, centers on the non-payment of promotional bonuses, a benefit workers are entitled to under collective bargaining agreements.

Union officials stated that workers are demanding the remaining 46,000 Turkish Lira of a promised 69,000 Lira bank promotion payment. They have vowed not to return to their workstations until the full amount is disbursed, emphasizing that this is a matter of contractual obligation and workers' rights.

"We will continue our actions by escalating them until the workers receive their rights," declared a spokesperson for Öz Ağaç-İş. The union's firm stance highlights the growing assertiveness of labor movements in Turkey demanding fair compensation and adherence to agreements, particularly in the face of economic pressures.

The strike at these Doğanlar Holding subsidiaries impacts a significant portion of the furniture industry workforce, with approximately 2,000 employees participating.
