Professor Ham Seung-soo Appointed to National Committee for Future Education Development

Professor Ham Seung-soo from Myongji University's Graduate School of Education has been appointed to a key specialist committee focused on shaping South Korea's future education landscape. He will serve as a member of the 'Mid-to-Long-Term National Education Development Specialist Committee' under the National Education Commission until December 2028.

This committee is a core body responsible for establishing the nation's mid-to-long-term educational vision and development plan. It will deliberate and provide advice on a wide range of national education policies, encompassing university entrance systems, private school operations, and alternative education initiatives.

Professor Ham, an expert in educational policy, religious private schools, Christian schools, and alternative education, currently serves as a professor and director of the Education Mission Center at Myongji University. He also holds the position of secretary-general for the Private School Mission Network, representing approximately 500 Christian schools nationwide, where he has focused on research to enhance the autonomy and educational diversity of religious private schools.

"I will discuss the educational issues facing our society, such as declining school-age population, educational disparities, nurturing future talent, university entrance exam reform, and the development of private and alternative education, in a balanced manner," Professor Ham stated. "I will do my best with a sense of responsibility to establish sustainable national education development plans that harmonize educational diversity, autonomy, and public interest."

His appointment is expected to integrate his extensive expertise from the education field and academia into the formulation of national mid-to-long-term education policies. This also presents an opportunity for Myongji University to enhance its policy influence and expand external cooperation by linking its educational and research capabilities with the national decision-making process.
