Rainy weather to sweep Poland, with mountain winds reaching 110 km/h

Poland is heading into a period of unsettled weather, with rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected in several parts of the country. The most powerful gusts will affect the mountain peaks, where winds could reach 110 km/h.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management said Poland would remain between a broad low-pressure system over Scandinavia and northwestern Russia and a high-pressure ridge stretching from the Atlantic to the Balkans. A shallow low-pressure trough and a cold front will move east across the north of the country.

Thursday will bring moderate or heavy cloud cover, scattered rain and local thunderstorms, especially along the coast and in the southeast. Storms could produce 10 to 15 millimeters of rain. Morning fog in the east and southeast could reduce visibility to 300 meters. Daytime temperatures will generally reach 20 to 23 degrees Celsius, rising to about 26 degrees in the southeast.

Friday will remain mostly cloudy, with clearer periods in the south. Showers will continue, and coastal areas could see thunderstorms and up to 20 millimeters of rain. The only region expected to avoid rain is the southeast. Temperatures will range from 18 degrees in the northeast and along the coast to 25 or 26 degrees in the south. Winds could reach 70 km/h during coastal storms, 80 km/h in the Tatras and 110 km/h in the Sudetes.
