Rally driver Ogier's co-driver describes moments after crash: 'His eyes were not moving'

Sébastien Ogier's severe crash during the WRC Rally Finland on Saturday was one of the most arresting moments of the event. His co-driver, Julien Ingrassia, has detailed the critical moments immediately following the incident.

The nine-time world champion went off the road at approximately 140 kilometers per hour on the 17th special stage. Although the situation appeared serious, both Ogier and Ingrassia escaped without major injuries.

Ingrassia initially thought everything was fine, seeing Ogier get out of the car. He followed protocol and pressed the OK button, signaling they were unharmed and no rescue personnel were needed. However, the situation quickly changed.

"Then I saw Seb lie down on the grass and lose consciousness. I immediately activated the emergency signal and went to Seb," Ingrassia recounted to L'Equipe. "His eyes were not moving. He made no sound and reacted in no way."

Ogier regained consciousness after a few seconds and was airlifted to the hospital for further examination. Ingrassia reassured Ogier's mother that he was okay. Ogier was discharged from the hospital on Sunday. Ingrassia, who co-drove for Ogier from 2006 to 2021, returned for this event as a one-off replacement for the regular co-driver, Vincent Landais.
