Repeat Offender Arrested for Stealing Bags of Clothes from Stores in Zaprešić

Zagreb police have apprehended a 53-year-old recidivist who, over a month-long period, orchestrated a series of brazen thefts from retail stores in Zaprešić. This individual, operating with a crew of associates, targeted clothing stores within a local shopping center, demonstrating a pattern of repeat offending that has now led to his capture.

He stole by approaching clothing racks and shelves, stuffing them into a bag, and running out of the store. Men and women he brought with him did the same.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, between February 6 and March 10, committed nine counts of theft. He visited the same store eight times, sometimes alone and sometimes accompanied by men and women he led, stuffing hundreds of clothing items into bags before fleeing. On one occasion, he and several unknown women targeted a different store in the same center, making off with more apparel.

Thus, they stole several hundred pieces of clothing, which they took out of the store after putting them in bags, and then they all fled together.

This organized shoplifting ring caused significant financial damage, estimated at around 21,123 euros, to two local businesses. The police have compiled a special report and submitted it to the Municipal State Attorney's Office in Novi Zagreb, indicating the seriousness with which this case is being treated. The repeated nature of the offenses and the involvement of multiple individuals highlight a persistent challenge for law enforcement in combating retail crime.
