As Russia prepares for its annual Victory Day celebrations on May 9th, reports indicate a significant bolstering of President Vladimir Putin's personal security. While the Kremlin has confirmed that "additional measures" are being taken, as is customary before major events, it has vehemently denied Western media speculation, including reports citing unnamed European intelligence sources, about fears of a coup or assassination attempt. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed such claims, questioning the existence and credibility of the "European intelligence" cited.
