Sanwo-Olu Seeks Legislative Backing to Complete Lagos Projects

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appealed to the Lagos State House of Assembly for sustained legislative backing to ensure the successful completion of his administration's projects and reforms. Speaking at the 19th Executive-Legislative Parley, the Governor emphasized the crucial role of the Assembly's support in achieving the administration's THEMES+ agenda and consolidating key initiatives before the end of his term.

Over the course of this administration, the House has passed critical legislation that gave legal force to our most ambitious programmes; from the laws enabling our multimodal transport framework to the fiscal instruments that supported our infrastructure bonds.

Sanwo-Olu lauded the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, and the Assembly members for their productive working relationship, which has been instrumental in driving significant policy and infrastructure developments since 2019. He acknowledged the critical legislation passed by the House, which has provided legal frameworks for ambitious programs, including the multimodal transport system and infrastructure bonds. The Governor also recognized the importance of budget approvals, oversight hearings, and constituency engagements in the administration's successes.

The budget approvals, the oversight hearings that kept agencies accountable, and the constituency engagements that brought citizen voices into the legislative record… are the scaffolding on which everything we have built has stood.

Looking ahead, Governor Sanwo-Olu outlined his administration's commitment to completing all strategic infrastructure projects, particularly in the transport sector, assuring that no project of importance would be abandoned. Furthermore, he announced plans to introduce a Legacy and Transition Bill. This proposed legislation aims to institutionalize key policy frameworks, ensuring that governance continuity is maintained and that the next administration inherits robust systems, not just projects. The Governor also revealed plans to convene a Citizens’ Assembly to strengthen inclusive governance and publish a comprehensive State of Lagos Report detailing the administration's performance.
