Saraki: Unite PDP After Supreme Court Ruling, Focus on 2027 Polls

Following the Supreme Court's definitive ruling, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands at a crucial juncture. As former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki has rightly advised, the focus must now shift decisively towards reconciliation and strategic planning for the 2027 general elections. The apex court's verdict, which declared the Ibadan convention null and void and affirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee, provides the clarity needed to move forward.

Now that we have all ventilated our views and exhausted the legal channels of expressing our grievances and the apex court in the land has given a verdict that the Ibadan Convention is null and void in the same manner as all actions arising from it while also subsequently affirming the Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara-led National Working Committee as the recognised leadership of the party both in law and by the regulatory authority, the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC), there is now only one PDP and we should all unite and work for the success of our party across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Saraki's consistent advocacy for an interim arrangement over the controversial Ibadan convention has now been vindicated. His counsel, offered to party elders and stakeholders, aimed to preempt the prolonged litigation and arduous reconciliation process that has plagued the PDP. This legal clarity is not an end in itself but a vital prerequisite for rebuilding the party's strength and credibility. The internal wrangling, while now legally settled, must give way to a unified front.

Our dialogue should focus on how to rally round and rebuild the party, make it strong, and make it become a platform that many members and non-members can find as the only credible alternative platform for realising their ambitions, for serving the people, and providing good governance to Nigerians.

This means transcending the 'who wins, who loses' mentality and concentrating on rebuilding trust and offering a compelling vision for governance. For members and non-members alike, the PDP must re-establish itself as the credible alternative capable of realizing ambitions and serving the people. Saraki's call to action is clear: unite, rebuild, and prepare to present a strong, cohesive PDP on the ballot in 2027, ensuring our party remains a viable force in Nigeria's political landscape.
