Senior NU figure Marsudi Syuhud ready to run for PBNU chairman

Senior Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure KH Marsudi Syuhud has announced his intention to contest the upcoming election for the supreme leader of the organization. Syuhud, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), stated his decision comes in response to encouragement from NU regional and branch leaders, as well as clerics throughout Indonesia.

"Thank you to those who have publicly expressed their aspirations. I am considered capable of continuing, leading the organization out of conflict, and managing its affairs better in the future," Syuhud said in a podcast. He stressed that his life has been dedicated to service ('khidmah') and that he is ready to lead if supported by the regional and branch leadership.

"If we interpret life as service, there will be no fatigue or complaints, whether it's service to knowledge, service to clerics, or service to Nahdlatul Ulama. If the intention is like that, I am sure everything feels light," he explained. Syuhud also highlighted the importance of progressive organizational experience before leading a large institution. "Before becoming 'General Chairman,' one must at least be accustomed to being 'the chairman's general.' We must be accustomed to going through processes from the bottom up to understand the reflections. So when there is a problem, our organizational instincts and sensors are trained to make improvements," he added.
