Sheinbaum says the essence of Mexico's Fourth Transformation is staying close to families' needs, rejects rift with AMLO

Claudia Sheinbaum presented the Fourth Transformation as a government that must remain close to Mexican families, while dismissing speculation that she has distanced herself from Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Speaking in Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, at the start of events across Mexico linked to her second government report, Sheinbaum said her administration identifies itself as a government of the people. She said that principle would not change and that the government serves exclusively for and by citizens.

Sheinbaum described the Fourth Transformation's essence as staying connected to families' needs. She said her government would not betray the confidence placed in the project and insisted that claims of internal divisions lacked foundation. López Obrador, who served as president from 2018 to 2024, and Sheinbaum, she said, belong to the same movement seeking equity and social justice in Mexico.

The president also criticized policies from earlier administrations. She blamed Carlos Salinas de Gortari for selling national companies to a few groups, Ernesto Zedillo for the Fobaproa debt that continues to affect the public budget, Felipe Calderón for his security strategy and allegations involving police commanders, and Enrique Peña Nieto for rising poverty and corruption.

Sheinbaum also called former President Vicente Fox a traitor to democracy after Fox met PRI leader Alejandro “Alito” Moreno. She recalled the 2005 impeachment process against López Obrador, which she said sought to block his participation in the presidential contest. Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus did not join her at this stop, contrasting with other states where local leaders attended official events.
