Skater Danny León Achieves World First by Grinding Football Goal Crossbar

Spanish skater Danny León has made history by becoming the first person to successfully grind the crossbar of a professional football goal. The Red Bull athlete, a two-time Olympian, executed this groundbreaking feat at the Atlético de Madrid stadium, the Metropolitano.

The challenge involved transforming a standard 7.32-meter wide football goal, with its 2.44-meter high crossbar, into a seven-meter-long skate rail. To achieve the necessary speed and momentum, León utilized a winch system, pulling himself along a cable towards the ramp.

This project is very special for me because it unites two of my great passions: football and skate. As a child, I used to go to football training skating, with my cleats on, so being able to grind a goal in a stadium like the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is a dream come true.

Courage Adams, a fellow Red Bull BMX athlete, operated the winch system via remote control, ensuring León had the precise speed and trajectory for the stunt. Marc Pubill, a player for Atlético de Madrid and a world champion with the Spanish national team, was also present to witness the event from the pitch.

León described the project as deeply personal, merging his passions for football and skateboarding. He recalled skating to football training as a child with his cleats on, making the experience of grinding a goal at such a renowned stadium a "dream come true." This achievement follows another notable feat on August 12, where León performed a jump during a solar eclipse, an image that went viral online.
