Uijtdebroeks Withdraws from Vuelta a España Due to Worsening Injury

Belgian cyclist Cian Uijtdebroeks has been forced to withdraw from the Vuelta a España after complications arose from an injury sustained earlier in the race. The Movistar Team rider will not take the start for the fifth stage, which is set to take place between Falset and Roquetes in Tarragona.

The decision comes after further medical tests revealed that the injury Uijtdebroeks suffered during a fall in the second stage is more severe than initially assessed. The team's statement indicated that the extent of the injury required him to abandon the competition to begin his recovery process as soon as possible.

This withdrawal marks a disappointing setback for the 23-year-old rider, as it is his second consecutive Grand Tour abandonment. Uijtdebroeks was also forced to retire from the Tour de France during its sixth stage earlier this year, highlighting a challenging period in his season.
