South-east governors will support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 - Uzodimma

Governors from Nigeria's five South-East states have pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027. Senator Hope Uzodimma, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, announced the decision, attributing it to the current administration's significant developmental interventions in the region.

Despite belonging to different political parties, the governors have collectively assessed the Federal Government's performance in the South-East and agreed to back the Tinubu administration. "The South-East has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground," Uzodimma stated during a meeting with traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council.

The governors plan a joint courtesy visit to President Tinubu to solidify their collaboration. Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum, urged politicians to avoid spreading propaganda on Igbo platforms, emphasizing the region's focus on tangible results over political rhetoric. He highlighted projects like the South East Development Commission, the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line's commercial operations, and the Eastern Rail Corridor reconstruction as key achievements.

Road infrastructure improvements, including access roads to the Second Niger Bridge and the Oba–Nnewi–Uga–Ihube/Okigwe Junction Road, were also cited as beneficial projects. Uzodimma added that the South-East has also gained from national policies such as increased state allocations, the student loan scheme, and security initiatives. He encouraged continued support for Imo State's Charter of Equity.
