South Korea to Fund $15 Million Project Enhancing Cambodian Police Capacity

The National Police Agency of South Korea is stepping up its international cooperation efforts by launching a significant public development aid (ODA) project aimed at bolstering Cambodia's law enforcement capabilities. With an investment of approximately $15 million, this initiative underscores South Korea's commitment to global security and its role as a partner in building robust policing systems abroad.

The National Police Agency plans to promote a public development aid (ODA) project worth 18 billion won to strengthen the policing capabilities of Cambodia.

The project's core objective is to enhance Cambodia's capacity in critical areas such as on-site investigation and forensic science. By sharing South Korean expertise and advanced investigative techniques, the program seeks to equip Cambodian police with the tools necessary to tackle increasingly sophisticated transnational crimes. This aligns with the broader goals of fostering stability and security within the Asian region.

Both agencies agreed to enhance the functions of the 'Korea Desk' operating in Cambodia.

A key component of this initiative is the expansion of the 'Korea Desk.' This joint task force, comprising South Korean and Cambodian officers, has already demonstrated considerable success, apprehending 166 fugitives involved in crimes targeting Korean nationals. The desk's effectiveness in combating cross-border crime provides a strong foundation for the expanded ODA project.
