Spain begins its path to New Jersey

The Spanish national football team is set to commence its quest for a second World Cup title, with preparations beginning this Saturday at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, Madrid. The team aims to lift the trophy in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.

Coach Luis de la Fuente's squad will convene at 5:00 PM CEST, with their first public training session scheduled for Sunday. However, the team will not be at full strength initially. Martín Zubimendi, Mikel Merino, and Fabián Ruiz will join later after participating in the Champions League final. Additionally, Yeremy Pino will receive extended rest following his Europa Conference League victory with Crystal Palace.

These players are expected to join the squad before their first friendly match on June 4 in La Coruña against Iraq. Following this game, the team will travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to establish their base camp for the World Cup's group stage. They will play their second friendly on June 8 in Puebla, Mexico, against Peru.

Spain, the reigning European champions, has been drawn into Group H for the World Cup. Their group stage matches include encounters against Cape Verde on June 15 and Saudi Arabia on June 21, both in Atlanta. They will conclude the group stage against Uruguay on June 27 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Should they advance, potential knockout stage matches could take place in Los Angeles or Miami.
