Storm causes most damage in Vilnius region

A recent storm has left a trail of damage across Lithuania, with the Vilnius region bearing the brunt of the impact. Aviženiai and Riešė experienced the most severe consequences, prompting numerous emergency responses over the past day. Emergency services were dispatched 37 times, with the majority of calls originating from Vilnius County.

Road crews are actively working to clear affected routes, particularly near the Bukiškis overpass in Aviženiai, where they are removing accumulated water and other storm debris. While the main streets in Vilnius city are now passable after the heavy rainfall, cleanup operations continue, addressing remaining flood areas and fallen trees.

The storm's lingering effects mean that some residents are still without electricity. The full extent of the damage is being assessed as cleanup efforts progress.
